Coen brother find their Mattie for 'True Grit'
This just in from multiple extremely reliable sources:
The winner of the national search for the role of Mattie Ross in the Coen Brothers' True Grit is relative unknown Hailee Steinfeld. She's Los Angeles based, so probably didn't come from those Texas casting calls. The film is set to start shooting next month in the Austin area.

Oh of course, I think these filmmakers come to Texas and audition us as a matter of course. Knowing full well that they will just end up casting someone from L.A. Rodriguez does this in my opinion which is a shame for Texas talent. It's all a sham.
My understanding is that the studio wanted to release this casting announcement themselves? And a well known cd / acting coach has already removed this info from her FB page. If you heard about this from anyone my guess it has to be from some of the parents out there that went crazy with the open calls that were held throughout the US. They are freaking out trying to be the first to tell someone their big "secret". So unprofessional. No wonder their kids did not get cast.
